Submission of Direct Title / Norms reports

We would like to inform all arbiters and Federations with respect to the application procedure of Direct Titles or Norms.

Procedure

After the end of the tournament, the Chief Arbiter should fill in the IT4 Direct Title Report Form with their proposal of achieved titles and norms (and other relevant information), and send the form via email to titles@fide.com.

After review by the Qualification Commission, the FIDE Office will inform a player’s Federation about the Title or Norm.

Titles are only awarded to a player after the Federation has accepted it.

Please note, the Arbiter should not issue any certificate to a player or a Federation.

Reminders about requirements for Direct Title tournaments

We would like to remind you about some of the requirements for Direct Title tournaments to be eligible:

  • Zonals are accepted for Direct Titles only if they establish direct qualifiers to the World Cup (Continental path).
  • A title or result can be achieved if at least one third or five of the appropriate member federations – whichever is lower – participate in the event. The minimum number of participants in the event is ten. The minimum number of rounds is nine. The World Championships for Disabled (for adults and for U20) are exempted from this rule.
  • If groups are combined to make a bigger group, then the requirements (at least 10 participants from at least 5 federations) shall apply to this merged group. Titles can be awarded to the best player(s) of the subgroups, provided the subgroup has at least 6 participants from at least 3 federations and the player scores a minimum of 50% in played games over the full number of rounds.
  • Points scored with a bye and forfeit wins are not taken in consideration for percentages.

All titles are awarded conditional on rating:
