Recent changes in rating calculations
After the 2024 changes to the FIDE Rating System were implemented, an issue with one aspect of the rating system occurred. Players whose ratings fell below 1400 became ‘Unrated Players’ but the process to return them to the rating list after fulfilling the performance requirements was not implemented correctly. In identifying and fixing this issue, the FIDE Rating Office took longer than hoped for, but the first fix (for Standard and Rapid ratings) has been installed.
To fix the issue accurately, rating results were reprocessed for the period of time that players were affected. In returning some players to the list who were previously not there, other players’ ratings may have been affected as well. These changes were of a minor nature and simply reflect the results against players who may have been treated as unrated at a previous time.
FIDE QC would like to thank all of you who contacted us on this issue. Feel free to contact QC with further rating issues, which we can then pass on to the FIDE Ratings Office for resolution
