Federation of opponents in title events – National Individual and Teams Championships

FIDE Title Regulations (click here to see it in FIDE Handbook) grant an exemption to B.01.1.4.3 (At least two federations other than that of the title applicant must be included) for National Championships and National Teams Championship. Occasionally the FIDE Qualification Commission (QC) receives a request to change the applicable event or to include results from qualifying events.

To be clear, the reason for this exemption is due to the importance of these events to the national federation. They are not designed to allow players an easier path to titles.

Therefore FIDE QC reminds federations, organisers and players of the following:
1. This exemption is granted to the National Open/Women’s Individual Championship (1.4.3.a) and the National Open/Women’s Teams Championship (1.4.3.b)
2. This exemption only applies to players from the registering federation
3. Only the final stage of these events are exempt (and results from earlier stages cannot be included)
In the case of multiple divisions, only the top division is exempt, and only games played in the top division can be included in any norm application.
In all cases QC will make the final determination on whether an event is the valid National Individual or Teams Championship.
